What happens when all extraneous elements are cleared away and we’re left with pure simplicity? We get minimalism – which is the theme of a photographic project I created for myself over the summer.

I’ve aways loved the clean, Zen-like elegance of the minimalist aesthetic. I envisioned this project as a fun way to keep the creative juices flowing while dealing with the loads of time-intensive, non-creative things that are currently on my plate.

My goal for the project was straightforward: I would carry my camera with me as I walked the city streets of Charlotte, capturing whatever minimalist views caught my eye. Any subject was fair game, as long as it was something I hadn’t photographed before.

A thought to ponder: It's good to remember that the minimalist principles can apply to every aspect of our lives. Whether we’re taking a photograph, cleaning out the garage or eliminating things from our overpacked schedules, removing the clutter can be a liberating experience. That's the beauty of minimalism.
